How to use | Tumble dryer balls

Tumble Dryer Balls: Grandmother's hack is popular again!

If you use dryer balls in the dryer, your clothes will dry faster, less wrinkled, softer and less static. Sounds fantastic right? In this blog you can read more about the benefits and uses of these mythical sheep's wool dryerballs, which recently received more than 12,000 five-star Amazon reviews.

What are these wax balls made of?

Our dryer balls are made from Merino sheep's wool , from sheep that come from New Zealand. The Merino sheep is one of the oldest and strongest sheep breeds in the world. The solution that relieves both the sheep, the environment and your wallet is born: The STEAMRS Dryer Balls . The beautiful sheep's wool is not thrown away, but biologically cleaned and reused in a sustainable way. A nice way not to let the beautiful wool go to waste!

The advantages of dryer balls at a glance

Using tumble dryer balls has several advantages:

1. They act as a natural fabric softener
2. The tumble dryer balls shorten the drying time and save energy
3. Reduces wrinkles in your clothes
4. Removes static charge from your clothes
3. They last a very long time: up to 1000+ drying cycles

For us, the fact that you save on plastic and chemicals is more than enough to never want to switch to fabric softener again.

How do I use tumble dryer balls made from sheep's wool?

The included STEAMR sustainable cotton storage bag contains 6 pieces of XL Sheep's wool dryer balls! 3 white and 3 black balls.

1. With a full dryer: use 4-5 washing balls
2. With an empty dryer: use 2-3 washing balls
3. It doesn't matter if you add the white or black balls to the tumble dryer, you can just mix the colors
4. Turn on the dryer on a shorter drying setting than you are normally used to
5. When you use the dryer balls for the first time, they may still release some fluff. After the first drying cycle, the balls no longer give off fluff!
6. You can spray the balls with some water under the tap, so they remove even more static charge from your laundry

Note: The dryer balls can make some noise in the dryer, but much less than plastic or rubber dryer balls.

How exactly do tumble dryer balls work in the dryer?

1. More warm air circulation
To dry properly, the laundry contents you put in the dryer must be separated to allow warm air to circulate. The washing balls, as it were, dress the laundry, so that it flies around more airily in the drum of the tumble dryer. So if dryer balls are left between the fabrics during the drying process, warmer air can flow much more quickly between the garments, drying significantly faster and reducing the amount of time the dryer needs to run.

2. Wool softens fibers & removes static charge
Why would wool dryer balls replace fabric softener, it's because of how the balls interact with fibers in linens and clothing. The wool balls move the fibers in a delicate way, making the clothing feel softer when it dries.

In addition, the laundry is less static and comes out less wrinkled!
However, in the event that the static electricity is still present, make sure to spray a little bit of water on the dryer balls before placing them in the tumble dryer. This will increase the humidity in the tumble dryer and remove any remaining static electricity.

3. Enjoy this purchase for years to come!

Another great facet of wool dryer balls is how long they last. While mileage may vary, some dryer balls can be used over 1,000 times, which is up to 5+ years for most people! The only time you need to worry about replacing them is when you see the balls start to unravel.

Why choose wool dryer balls and not plastic/rubber?

Dryer balls can be made from a variety of materials, such as plastic, rubber, and wool. Those looking for a more eco-friendly alternative to fabric softener and dryer sheets often turn to wool dryer balls. If you do opt for sustainable, it is of course better to leave plastic or rubber balls lying around.

In addition, wool balls are also faster and more efficient when it comes to drying loads of laundry thanks to the heat retained from the dryer, further increasing their drying power.

Tip: While using dryer balls is unscented (which may be fine for some), it's fairly easy to add a little fragrance if needed. Simply apply some essential oils - such as lemon or lavender - to the balls. If you like it, you can even spray a little perfume on it (don't do this with a wash with children's clothing).

Hopefully these tips will help you and you will be able to use your nice STEAMRS dryer balls for years to come. This beautiful bag is also a fantastic and unique gift to give to someone else. You are guaranteed to make someone very happy with this!
